Most books on this subject focus on photos and reports, mostly about Japanese tattooing.  This book tells of the tradition of tattoing in the Pacific Isles and the importance of tattooing in the Middle East.  The author will leave the reader with a new repect for the art of tattooing.

This work is not just of collection of illustrations, although there are many.  It goes into depth about the history and culture of tattoing through the ages from all cultures.  It is very well witten and a pleasure to read.  The author carefully notes where all his information is derived from.
